First win of season SWR's target as F4 visits Brands Hatch GP
Mon 12, May, 2014

Oxfordshire motor racing team SWR is targeting its first win of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship season when the 2014 campaign resumes at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit this coming weekend, 17th/18th May.

Making a highly competitive start to the sophomore year of the one-make single-seater category, the front-running squad secured a superb podium finish in the second race of the year at Silverstone with rapid Danish teenager Nicolas Beer.

Not only that, the Formula 4 rookie was on course to take what would have been a stunning maiden victory in round three at the team’s home track when he was unceremoniously smashed out of the lead by rival Sennan Fielding – the Briton was later excluded from the results by race officials.

Beer, a race winner in the ADAC Formel Masters last year, more than proved his pace at Silverstone and after such an excellent beginning to the championship he is certain to be challenging at the sharp end once again on his first visit to Brands Hatch. He goes into next weekend’s event seventh in the driver standings, within 21 points of the coveted top three.

British team-mate Jordan Albert is another newcomer to BRDC Formula 4 and has only been racing at any level for one year. With that in mind, the 17-year-old’s performances on the first weekend of the season were mightily impressive and he showed the pace to trouble the top 10.

Securing a hat-trick of 13th place finishes, after three battling drives in the midfield, the youngster undoubtedly has the promise to be a consistent top 10 runner at Brands Hatch as he strives to move up from his current position of 14th in the championship.

Venezuela’s Diego Borrelli, who is embarking on his first season in single-seaters with SWR this year, raced strongly on his UK debut and delivered three determined performances as he gained more and more confidence in his F4 machine.

Posting a best finish of 14th place in the opening encounter at Silverstone, the South American was disappointingly prevented from taking three deserved points finishes when a rival eliminated him from race two on only the second lap following contact. Therefore ending the first weekend a lower than expected equal 18th place in the championship, Borrelli has much more to show at Brands.

“Next weekend should be good, we’re all feeling very positive after such a strong start during the first three rounds at Silverstone”, said SWR team owner Sean Walkinshaw, “Nicolas obviously did a fantastic job on his F4 debut and displayed superb pace, the Grand Prix track at Brands is another new challenge but we’re sure he can be in the fight for a win again.

“Jordan and Diego have less experience but at Silverstone they were both quick and definitely have the potential to break into the top 10 next weekend. They’re only going to get faster and faster as the season goes on, hopefully Brands will bring three strong finishes for both of them.”

Qualifying at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit will get underway at 14.00 on Saturday, 17th May, with round four of the season following at 16.00. On Sunday, 18th May, round five is scheduled to start at 11.50 with round six beginning at 16.00.
