The third round of the 2014 GP2 Series entered its most exciting stage this weekend, with the running  at the historical Monte Carlo venue. In a sensational environment, teams and drivers hit one of the most fascinating race in history, one that can provide boring, exciting or surprising stories. Today’s Feature Race provided plenty of drama and many episodes that conditioned its final chaotic outcome. After yesterday’s tough qualifying sessions that bought Adrian Quaife-Hobbs a 17th place, due to a mechanical problem with the brake bias, Team Rapax opted for an aggressive strategy for the feature race.

The plans made by the teams and drivers were jeopardized by two safety-car interruptions and a red flag situation lasted more than 30 minutes. Quaife-Hobbs ended up with a positive result, as he scored his fourth points finish in five races held so far in 2014. The British BRDC Super Star scored a 9th place at the end of a flawless and consistent race, just missing out on 8th place, which would have given Adrian pole, for reverse grid race 2. 

The second race of the weekend saw the two Team Rapax drivers, Adrian Quaife-Hobbs and Simon Trummer,start from 9th and 25th place respectively. At the end of the 30-lap run, which featured two safety-car interventions, Quaife-Hobbs managed to make his way into the points zone by finishing in 8th place.   

The next race for the 2014 GP2 Series will be in four weeks at the Austrian Red Bull Ring venue -  the first time GP2 has visited this track which will run over the weekend of the 20/22 June. For more info, please view www.rapaxteam.com or www.gp2series.com

“Today’s race has been a confusing one. Right after the start, the safety-car came in, then the race was interrupted with a red flag and then we got another safety-car. The last one damaged me quite a lot because when it came on-track, we arrived at the Port Chicane at slow speed, as prescribed by the rules. Unfortunately, many drivers that were in front accelerated hard, and gained enough ground to stop for their tyre change and come back out in front of me. If we go beyond this episode, we have confirmed that here at Monte Carlo we have a good race pace. I’m confident because we can be competitive on all types of tracks”.

“At the start I fought with Evans and Palmer. I made it in 8th and I managed the car for the sole race without taking full advantage of its potential. I had a very quick pace but the race, especially after the Safety-Car came in, turned out to be a procession and passing was almost impossible. The final laps have been tough due to the tyre wear but it was a common issue on most of the cars. I’m happy to have ended up in the points zone once again, but now my goal will be to score some “heavy” results!”
