Pull fighting at the front in Blancpain GT Series at Silverstone
Wed 15, May, 2019

James Pull showed his ability while battling at the front of the pack during the second round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at his home track, Silverstone Circuit, but left with a feeling of what could have been given his performance over the weekend.

The British-Malaysian driver returned to Silverstone driving alongside Sandy Mitchell and Jordan Witt in Barwell Motorsport’s new #78 Lamborghini, where last year he finished on the podium in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe

The sun was shining throughout the weekend, with the team running consistently in the top ten overall and top three in the Silver Cup class during free practice. On Sunday morning Pull was able to show what he was capable of during the first qualifying group, setting a quick lap early and placing the #78 car P6 overall and P3 in class. Combining the three lap times from Pull and his two team-mates, the Barwell Motorsport trio qualified 7th overall and 2nd in class.

“The team got the strategy in qualifying right for me, as some red flags caught some of the other teams out in Q1, although I believe there was still more time to be had. Overall, we were happy to qualify P7 overall and P2 in class, it boosted our confidence going into the race.”

Pull started the three-hour race in the #78 and was able to move up a position early on while keeping clear of the incidents happening behind him. After a safety car period Pull had good pace and was in the battle for 4th throughout his stint before being brought in early by Barwell Motorsport to attempt to perform an undercut with Witt taking control. Unfortunately, the team lost out as a full course yellow period occurred soon after, giving the other cars Pull was battling with the opportunity to make their pitstops without losing too much time. This pushed the #78 car down to 28th place overall, but teammates Witt and Mitchell put in strong performances to try and get the car back to the front.

When the chequered flag fell the #78 team had finished 15th overall and 5th in class. Pull was disappointed with the result.

“The full course yellow came at the worst possible time for us, but we fought back and know what we are capable of”.

Despite this though, Pull leaves Silverstone full of confidence after battling near the front during his stint and aiming to do the same in the future.

“Overall the car was excellent, the team were superb, and I felt extremely confident throughout my stint battling at the front in Blancpain GT”.

Pull and the Barwell Motorsport team now have a three-week break before travelling to Circuit Paul Ricard for the third round of the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup on June 1.
