Podcast: McLaren misconceptions + IndyCar expectation with Rossi
Fri 30, Jun, 2023
Source: The Race

Arrow McLaren IndyCar driver and ex-Formula 1 racer Alexander Rossi joins this week’s episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast to talk about his strong campaign so far with his new team.

Rossi has been one of the under-the-radar stars of the 2023 IndyCar season – he could be sitting as high as fourth in the championship had two results not gone against him – and has netted four straight top-10 finishes heading to Mid-Ohio, which is one of his best circuits and one at which he has won before.

Discussing his move to McLaren, Rossi talks about his preconceptions about a difficult-to-drive car being wrong, gives his take on how well the team has handled expanding to three cars with a bunch of non-motorsport personnel on his car, and also explains how he is managing the weight of expectation of being a previous championship contender but struggling during the aeroscreen era.

He also gives a fascinating insight into what it’s like to work with family, as his father Peter is his manager and has been since before Rossi was in F1, despite having no prior racing experience.

Rossi also discusses what race he wants to contest and the car he wants to drive next after Baja 1000 and Australian Supercars outings in the past, and why he doesn’t have a bet with Zak Brown to drive one of the cars in his collection despite his team-mates having such deals.
