Kaminsky and Chang eyeing podiums on British F3 debut
Thu 01, May, 2014

Exciting Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series rookies Camren Kaminsky and Andy Chang are setting their sights high for the first three rounds of the 2014 season at Rockingham this weekend, with the Double R Racing team-mates targeting podium success from the outset.

Taking place on Sunday, 4th May, and Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May, the curtain-raiser to the new seven event campaign carries much promise for Woking’s Double R – the squad having enjoyed an impressive showing during the official pre-season test at Donington Park earlier this month.

Chang posted the second fastest time of the day in his Dallara-Mercedes with American youngster Kaminsky only a mere 0.055 seconds shy of his Macanese team-mate in third, confirming the duo’s strong pace despite their respective lack of experience in F3 machinery.

“After such a strong showing in the official test earlier this month, hopes are very high for Andy and Camren at the weekend”, said team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt, “F3 cars aren’t easy to master at all, but so far they’re doing a fantastic job and have really impressed us. From what we’ve seen during the pre-season, there’s no reason at all we shouldn’t be able to challenge for the podium.”

Double R, of course, put together an impressive British F3 campaign last year after carrying Italy’s Antonio Giovinazzi to the Vice-Champion’s position with seven podiums and two wins. His then team-mates, Sean Gelael and Tatiana Calderón, also climbed the podium – the latter making history as the first lady racer to ever stand on the outright International Class podium in the British series.

Qualifying for the opening three rounds of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series will take place at 11.10 on Sunday, 4th May, at Rockingham in Northamptonshire with the first race of the weekend getting underway at 16.35. On Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May, round two will begin at 11.10 with round three following at 16.50.
