Habsburg claims maiden F3 win at Paul Ricard
Wed 08, Jun, 2016

Drivex and Austrian Ferdinand Habsburg enjoyed their best weekend in the F3 Open by achieving first and second place in both races held at Paul Ricard. It was his maiden win in Formula 3 racing and Drivex´s first triumph with new Dallara F312.

On Friday, Habsburg topped free practice sessions almost a second clear of Antoni Ptak. On a similar way, on Saturday morning Habsburg secured his first ever F3 Open pole position with his lap of 1:59.788, a record-breaking time and the only driver under the 2-minute barrier. Later, he controlled the race and led the full distance to take the checkered flag first. Similarly, on Sunday Austria´s driver posted pole position but he couldn´t fend off series leader Leonardo Pulcini at the race start, who passed him for the lead. Despite Ferdinand´s effort, he couldn´t retake the lead but a 2nd-place finish was another positive result to strengthen P2 in the standings. Habsburg claimed double win in rookies´ class and sits first in rookies´ overall classification.

The round four of the F3 Open will take place on 23-24 July at Silverstone, the Home of British Motor Racing.

Ferdinand Habsburg: "This weekend was absolutely amazing, everything seemed to go our way. We were quick all weekend and were able to get our first win in race one, but importantly we picked up some good points and a few trophies too! A big thanks to the Drivex team and everybody who has supported me so far, let´s hope this is the first of many."

Miguel Ángel de Castro: “I speak on behalf of our team to express how happy we are. Our maiden win is the fruit of the efforts of many people working for many months. Ferdinand´s triumph is even most remarkable as he is a newcomer to the series, just like us with the Dallara F312. Not by accident our result came at Paul Ricard, which is a demanding track with two quick first and second sectors and then a slow third one. So, it is particularly difficult to have a quick car on the straights and then to produce enough mechanical grip in the slow sector. It proves our work on the car for such difficult conditions. Ferdinand was amazing in race one, with a faultless race after taking his first pole position in the morning. On Sunday, he completed another brilliant qualifying session and clinched his second pole time. Unfortunately a rival passed him at the start and any overtaking maneuver on Pulcini was quite risky, so second place was still an amazing result. Now we have to focus on closing the gap on the drivers´ championship on Pulcini.”
