Glenn van Berlo joins Drivex for 2020 Euroformula F3 Open debut
Wed 19, Feb, 2020

Drivex is delighted to welcome Dutch driver Glenn van Berlo to its driver line-up in the 2020 Euroformula F3 Open Championship. The young Dutchman will contest the Formula 3-based racing series at the wheel of an all-new Dallara 320 chassis, which will be powered by a 2-litre HWA-built engine.

Van Berlo, a renowned go-kart driver who took remarkable wins and triumphs in his home country, stepped up to single-seaters last year when he contested the Spanish Formula 4 championship. Netherlands’ van Berlo finished runner-up to Drivex driver Franco Colapinto as he scored three wins and secured other ten podium finishes on his debut in the Spanish series.

The Euroformula F3 Open will be another step forward for the new signing of Drivex as he will race on some of the most iconic European circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Red Bull Ring, Paul Ricard, Hockenheim, Pau or Barcelona. Besides, the 2020 season will see the introduction of the new Dallara 320, which is an update of the F317 used until last year. The new 320 chassis includes the latest safety-related technologies such as titanium halo, composite side-impact structures and front and rear impact structures.

Drivex is hoping to enhance its record in the series as the Spain-based team has already won three titles with Nikita Troitskiy (Rookies’ 2017), Ferdinand Habsburg (Rookies’ 2016) and Richard Gonda (Cup’s 2013), including two overall Vice-Championships with Troitskiy and Habsburg the same seasons.

Glenn van Berlo: “If you can go fast in this car, you can go fast in all other racing cars. It’s a very good preparation for other categories. I think as a driver I am better off driving a Formula 3 car because of all the technology involved and of course the amount of downforce that the car has. The extent to which you can adjust the car is close to Formula 1. With a car like that, you can keep learning. I drove quite a few laps. I immediately loved the car. It’s really impressive. I had several options, but I already knew this team from last season in Formula 4 and I get along very well with the team members. Their mentality is top-notch. Everyone has a very strong will to perform. Now the real work begins. We have discussed a lot of points and determined in which areas I have to improve myself. We are going to work on that. My goal for the season is to get to know the car really well and to get the most out of it. This winter I worked on all aspects that ultimately contribute to your performance. Among other things, I’ve trained very hard physically and mentally.”

Miguel Ángel de Castro: “I should like to take advantage of this opportunity most warmly to welcome Glenn onboard. He is a very talented driver as he already showed in the Spanish F4 Championship last year. Despite Glenn was making his first outing in single-seater racing, he was a tough rival from the very beginning. That’s why we are delighted to start working together in the 2020 Euroformula F3 Open because we are confident this project is extremely promising for both sides. We are continuously helping Glenn in order to getting him well-prepared for the season opener in April. He will be a driver to closely follow despite his rookie status.”
