Gamble claims Porsche Carrera Cup win for Team Amigos
Mon 01, Jul, 2019

The Amigos Tequila Beer team had a fantastic weekend watching the action unfold as both George Gamble and Dan Cammish took double podium finishes for Team Amigos, whilst racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Hot and humid temperatures greeted us on both days, but this made driving conditions challenging for George and his team-mate Seb Perez, as well as Dan. After a terrible case of bad luck at Croft for George, where he was taken out in race one and unable to start race two due to the damage to his car, he had thrilling battles on track and secured not only a double podium but also his first win of the year.

After the race the Amigos Redline Racing driver gave us an insight into his rewarding weekend. “We had such bad luck at Croft that is was great to come to Oulton and have the pace to get two brilliant results,” said George. “It was a real credit to the team because they had to strip and rebuild the car so it’s nice to reward them with third and the win. We needed these results for the championship and for a bit of team morale. It’s been a mega weekend.

“It was so hot for race one and managing the old tyres from qualifying was tough, but we managed to get a podium. In race two the roles were reversed. We put right where we went wrong in the first race and managed to convert a win.

“It’s a whole month until our next race and I’ve never been to Thruxton so it will be interesting to see how we get on there. Hopefully we’ll have a bit of an edge as it’s unknown territory so fingers crossed we can get more podiums!”

Last time out for the Amigos team at Croft we had the thrill of watching young teenager Seb Perez score a podium and get involved in feisty battles after crazy rainfall at the venue. However, it was a tougher time for Seb in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car at Oulton Park.

“It hasn’t been an ideal weekend, but you come away from this type of experience and try and learn something,” said Seb. “We’ll definitely come back stronger after the summer break in the Carrera Cup. In the meantime, we have a race against some of the best Porsche drivers in Europe at the British Grand Prix which will be an amazing experience and one I hope to learn a lot from.”

Taking a trip over to the BTCC paddock, Team Amigos driver Dan Cammish had another fast-paced day with all three races in one afternoon. “This weekend was almost perfect,” he said. “We took two podiums and qualified pretty well. Second and third place in the first two races was fantastic and really, we were the only car out on track taking the fight to the BMW’s.

“I had a good start for race three, avoiding the mayhem and carnage. Just as I was gaining positions, I didn’t realise that the car in front was dropping oil, so when I braked, I went straight off the road. I couldn’t be more disappointed, but you know, what could I have done differently? I’m disappointed because we could have come away from Oulton as a mega points scorer where actually I’ve come away with a good haul but not what I could have done.”

The Amigos Tequila Beer team will be out at the British Grand Prix in two weeks' time as Seb competes in front of a crowd of over 100,000 people as he makes a one-off appearance in the Porsche Supercup in his Amigos-liveried Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine.
