Aston Martin test debut for Chadwick siblings
Fri 24, Oct, 2014

Rapid racing siblings Ollie and Jamie Chadwick thoroughly enjoyed their respective test debuts at the wheel of an Aston Martin Racing GT4 car at Donington Park today, Thursday, 23rd October, with top Avon Tyres British GT Championship squad Beechdean AMR – the 2014 GT4 Class driver champions.

Tetbury based 18-year-old Ollie and 16-year-old sister Jamie successfully completed a series of test sessions throughout the day at the Leicestershire track, with coaching from British GT race winner Jonny Adam, as the talented youngsters weigh up their racing options for 2015.

Ollie, of course, scorched to the Vice-Champion’s position in this year’s Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge and has his sights set on potential graduation into GT endurance racing. Jamie, the 2013 Ginetta Junior Scholarship Winner and a multiple podium finisher in the series this year, is also considering a wide range of possibilities for next season.

“It was a fun experience”, reflected Ollie on his first run in the Aston Martin, “You can obviously feel the ‘roadcar’ origins, but it’s been well adapted for this level of motorsport and you just know that, with a competitive field, there’d be some close racing.

“We’ve got some more testing planned in the coming weeks, including the GT3 Aston Martin, which I’m really looking forward to, and hopefully a Porsche Carrera Cup test too, so it will be interesting to make the comparisons.”

Equally happy with her GT test debut, Jamie said: “I’ve had two years racing a 100bhp Ginetta G40 Junior car, bumper to bumper, on the absolute limit. It’s frenetic, adrenaline-fuelled action, yet I immediately felt comfortable in the 440bhp Aston. Jonny [Adam] said it [Aston Martin] would better suit my smoother driving style, and that was apparent straight away.

“There’s definitely an awareness of the extra size and performance, but it’s a credit to the little G40 that it prepares drivers so well for higher formulae. The GT4 is actually easier to drive, which is obviously important over longer durations – I don’t think anyone could race a G40 for more than an hour!”

With their appetites whetted for more testing over the next few weeks, Ollie and Jamie will be back on track at Donington Park next Thursday, 30th October – Ollie at the wheel of a GT3 specification Aston Martin V12 Vantage and Jamie in a Xentek Racing prepared Ginetta G40 from the Ginetta Challenge, as raced by her brother this year.

Aside from their motor racing exploits, the Chadwicks are keeping incredibly busy away from the track too with Ollie also undertaking a Business Studies HND at Bath alongside his existing aviation commitments. Jamie is currently studying for her A-levels at Cheltenham, while also maintaining her other sporting interests.
