Wrong choice for Krohn
Anders Krohn is back from the World Cup in Belgium, but sadly he wasn`t able to improve his result from last year where he finished 17th. ”We knew already during free practice, that we would have problems during the race” Krohn comments.
On Thursday August 31st, the first practice was held, but prior to free practice scrutineering was held meaning you would have to choose your chassis before testing. ”Based on experienses gained in last years World Cup where we struggled with too much grip, the choice fell easily on the frame made for running free in high grip races.” The choice was unfortunatly as wrong as possible, and the track gathered no grip during the weekend at all.
”Due to the wrong choice, we struggled with rear grip problems all weekend long, and wasn`t able go get closer to the leaders than one second a lap.” Krohn qualified 45th, 9 tenths off pole. In both qualifying heats Krohn started 30th.
”My first heat was quite alright and I was up to something like 15th before I was shuffed off the track loosing 5-6 positions before regaining the track. I finished 21st. My second heat was to be a big disaster, where there was no speed at all. And in a fight with another driver we crashed at the end of the straight in 140km/h, but I was able to finish the race in 29th position.”
These positions meant Krohn would start 12th in the second-chance. The first few laps went well for Krohn gaining positions and looking as if he could finish inside the top 6, but together with again being shoved off the track and the sudden lack of grip, meant Krohn slid down the order to finish 13th. ”My race ended there. It`s a shame we didn`t get through to the finals, but I guess it is just one of those races. The team and myself have worked flat out all weekend and tried everything possible on the kart. However, the bad choice prior to the weekend made the result. There was nothing more we could have done to the kart.”
”I would like to end by thanking the entire Zanardi Holland crew; Paul Peters, Rob Knap, Walter van Lent, Ger Peters, and Michel Vacirca of CRG Holland. Also I would like to send a thanks to the Maxter factory for supplying me with good engines. I wouldn`t have been at the World Cup if it wasn`t for you guys! Thanks.” are Krohn`s final words.
As for Anders`future, it is unsure whether he will do more races in 2006 or not. Plans for 2007 are being made, but nothing is certain at the moment.

I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
