Winslow vs. Ebrahim in Formula V6 Asia showdown
It’s down to just two drivers, James Winslow and Armaan Ebrahim for the coveted 2007 Formula V6 Asia Driver’s Championship title this weekend at Zhuhai International Circuit during the Asian Festival Of Speed (AFOS.
The year started with a huge impact (of the wrong kind), when five drivers were taken out during an opening lap crash at turn one at Sepang International Circuit for the AFOS event. Ebrahim was among those that suffered a DNF, leaving American driver Seth Ingham to claim the early championship lead.
Rounds 3 and 4 were also held in Sepang International Circuit in front of the Super GT crowd. Winslow was a newcomer when he stepped into the car two races behind everyone else, but the competition between him and Ebrahim was just beginning. At the end of the weekend, Ebrahim showed his pace to claim both wins, propelling him to second in the Championship.
During the Sentul International Circuit race weekend and with Ingham out of the series, due to sponsorship woes, Ebrahim soared into the lead of the driver’s championship after climbing onto the top step of the podium twice over the weekend. But Winslow’s collection of 18 points propelled him up the ranks to second from his previous seventh place.
A turn of luck at the newly built Chengdu Goldenport Circuit pushed Winslow ahead of Ebrahim by just two points. Winslow’s pole was converted to two wins over the weekend while Ebrahim’s early exit from the first race cost him dearly. The Indian driver recovered for the next race to claim second place under wet weather race conditions.
The Championship then packed up and headed to Japan to run alongside the Super GT 300km race at the Autopolis International Racing Circuit. The cold temperatures and high altitude, combined with the technicalities of the circuit proved to be harsh on the drivers. Winslow claimed pole and despite Ebrahim’s pace, managed to snatch a win when Ebrahim suffered a failed rear wheel nut. A penalty for a manoeuvre off the start demoted Ebrahim from 5th to 6th and added to his woes. In the second race of the weekend however he drove brilliantly and took a well deserved win to keep his Championship hopes alive.
Heading into the final two rounds at the Asian Festival Of Speed at Zhuhai International Circuit, only two drivers are in a position to win the 2007 Title. British driver, James Winslow heads Aarman Ebrahim by ten points, but with both drivers showing that they are more than capable of winning races, it will be a hard fought battle to the end.
Ebrahim has knowledge of the Zhuhai circuit, as his Team TaraDTM is based there and held their pre- season practices at the circuit early this year. This may give him a slight advantage, but the OpesPrime Team Qi-Meritus driver, Winslow, is no stranger to Zhuhai, having raced there during his Asian Formula 3 season.

I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
