UMA/P1-AFR heads the action at Dubai
Going into Round 3 and 4 at the Dubai Autodrome for the 2007 Lumina CSV Series, UMA Motor Sports/P1 AFR stood second in the team points championship with its driving tandem of A.Aziz Al Ya'eesh and Fahad Hizam in 5th and 6th respectfully in the drivers points championship. The drivers were very determined and focused going into Dubai and it showed in the final results for the weekend.
Al Ya'eesh started strong in qualifying with a result of P2, but was moved back to 4th starting position due to a penalty, with teammate Hizam taking the grid in 7th. After a strong start by both UMA/P1 drivers, Hizam experienced a loose radiator hose on his #12 Lumina that quickly overheated and finished this race on lap 3. Aziz faired much better however as he initially watched the action ahead get very aggressive and let the race come to him. With all the bumping ahead by his competitors Al Ya'eesh began making up ground and on lap 5 overtook P2 and gaining on the leader. Shortly later Aziz took the lead from last seasons series champion Tarek Elgammal. The battle would remain heated among the top four competitors the rest of the way, with Al Ya'eesh crossing the line first overall. This excitement was short lived as he was relegated back to P2 finishing position after a protest by one of his competitors.
To begin race 4 of the championship, due to the DNF in race 3 Fahad Hizam had to begin in 15th starting position with teammate Aziz in P7 with the reverse finish order rule in place. Both drivers again had a fantastic start, but this time both would finish in better position than they began the race with both drivers gaining valuable points for the championship. After coming up just short in the previous race, Abdulaziz Al Ya'eesh was not to be denied this time. Steadily making his way through the field, he made clean pass after clean pass through to the lead. He made sure there would be no disputing who would be the victor in this round of the championship as he took the checkered flag in first position. As well, his teammate Fahad Hizam had an impressive run from 15th to finish in 6th position, only to wonder what could have been if he hadn't had the DNF the previous time out.
In all UMA Motor Sports/P1 AFR finished the weekend with a win, a second and many valuable points as team driver Al Ya'eesh moved from 5th in the driver's championship to 2nd and keeping the championship within arms length. Fahad Hizam, having the unfortunate problem with his car overheating in one of the two races dropped from 6th to 8th in the championship, but with eight rounds remaining, is still well within reach of the leaders.
For the Team Points Championship UMA/P1 is currently in second position with the eight rounds remaining, and only 8-points back from the series leader Lechner Racing Bahrain as the series will be back in Dubai for rounds 5 & 6 on January 10-12, 2008.

December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
