Two podiums for Vervisch in Sepang
Last weekend, Frédéric Vervisch visited Asia for the first time in his racing career, participating in the first round of the Asian Formula 3 Championship in Sepang.
On the Formula 1 circuit, Frédéric was a lot faster than all his rivals. Already during the first test in the week before the season opener, Fred was very fast. He continued this trend, being two seconds faster than everybody else in the first practice session. During qualifying, the Belgian was hampered by a technical failure, but was nevertheless half a second faster than his concurrents and took pole in front of his team mate Rafael Suzuki.
Frédéric made a good start into race 1, but Hamad Al Fardan was going a lot faster and they went side by side into the first corner. Fred outbraked his rival from Bahrain easily, but Al Fardan then tried to retake the lead and pushed Fred off the track. “My engine stopped and therefore I had to continue the race in last position. But I found a good pace immediately and was able to overtake some rivals. When I was behind Al Fardan, the race was already over. I finished only a second behind him in second place.”
In the second race, our driver started on the front row again. This time also, Fred and Al Fardan went side by side into the first turn. “I launched one attack after the other, but he just closed the door on me every time I wanted to overtake him. He was constantly blocking me and driving very aggressive. But the race direction didn’t intervene. I tried to keep myself out of trouble and secured second position. Like in race 1, we set the fastest lap and that gives us two extra points in the standings.” “I look back very positive on the first race weekend. We could have finished twice on the highest step of the podium, but it didn’t end up like that. We were the fastest on the track and that gives me a very good feeling for the next race in Zhuhai.”

I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
