Leanne Tander to test championship-winning Formula V6 Asia car in Malaysia
Leanne Tander will cap off a remarkable season by testing a Formula V6 Asia car for champion team Meritus racing, in Malaysia next week.
Tander was invited to test by Anthony Blumberg from Opes Prime and will complete two days in the car at the Sepang Circuit – the home of the Malaysian Grand Prix - on December 12 – 13.
Opes Prime supported 2007 Formula V6 Asia champion James Winslow in both the Asian series and Australian F3, where he raced against Tander’s Fleetcare TanderSport Dallara.
Meritus clinched the title last weekend at the Zuhai circuit, in China.
The opportunity to test an international-level Open Wheel car comes after a remarkable season where she won two races and finished a close second in the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship as well as contesting Formula Toyota in New Zealand and the Bathurst 12 hour production car race.
It will be Leanne’s first experience of an Open Wheel car the level above F3, Formula V6 Asia cars producing approximately 400hp from 3.5-litre Renault engines.
The cars weigh almost 600kg, feature six speed paddle-shift gearboxes and lap at a similar pace to A1GP cars.
”This is a fantastic opportunity to drive a more powerful, quicker open wheel car,” said Tander.
”I jumped at the chance – it’s not everyday you get a call to drive a car overseas and test with the team that won that years championship.
“Formula V6 Asia is a growing category and it also has local relevance because the 2008 Australian F3 Champion will receive the opportunity to negotiate a drive in the category as part of their prize for winning the series.
“I didn’t quite win this year, and the prize isn’t going to be awarded until next years champion, so I think I’m pretty lucky to have been made this offer to test!
“I’m certainly under no illusions that this is anything more than just a test, but I’m going to go into it looking to get the most out of it that I possibly can. I’m very grateful to Anthony Blumberg and Opes Prime for the chance.”

I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
