Plenty of positives for Leanne Tander despite Oran Park disappointment

Leanne Tander has capped off a remarkable season by finishing a close second in the 2007 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship.

And despite the obvious disappointment from the championship loss, the Fleetcare TanderSport driver has still found plenty of positives for the future from the recent Oran Park weekend.

Leanne scored two wins and ten podiums from sixteen races this season, netting her 206 championship points.

Season-long rival Tim Macrow won the championship with 208 points, after winning the final race of the year just ahead of Tander.

Whilst disappointed in the end result, the 2007 championship - the most competitive in Australian Formula 3 history - has been proof of both Leanne, and Fleetcare TanderSports’ rapid adaptation to Australia’s fastest national-championship formula.

Leanne finished fifth in the 2006 championship with two podium finishes to her credit, showing the dramatic improvement this year.

The team will aim to continually improve into the next season as they expand to a multi-car operation and a period of significant expansion.

Despite the obvious disappointment, Tander said she saw many positives from the weekend.

”It is very disappointing that we didn’t win, but it really couldn’t get any closer with just two points in it heading into the final round of the championship,” she said.

”Hopefully I will be back next season to go one better.

”Despite the championship result I feel that the weekend was actually one of my best overall of the year, which is very promising for the team and I for the future.

”It’s the first time that I’ve scored both pole positions, and to back that up with a second and a third and the fastest lap in race one shows some consistency and things are very promising in that respect,” she added.

”Our team has done a great job this season and I have to thank them all for their hard work. It’s all looking good for next season and for the continued growth of Fleetcare TanderSport.”

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
