New venue gives Rosenqvist sixth consecutive victory

As single-seater series Formula Asia 2.0 reached Bira Circuit in Thailand this weekend, Swedish motoring talent Felix Rosenqvist, 16, continued where he left off last time out in Malaysia – claiming two new victories and increasing his lead in the Championship standings. Rosenqvist controlled both the weekend’s races at a circuit he had never before seen, and the wins – which mean the Swede can now effectively skip one of the up-coming race weekends and still retain his overall lead – were cemented further by one Pole Position and one fastest lap.

“Those were probably the most satisfying victories of the year”, says Rosenqvist. “The car was a pleasure to drive, and after I took the early lead in Race 1, I felt this could be a good weekend. If someone had asked me before the start of the season, I would never have dreamed about scoring six straight wins – particularly since Bira Circuit was a completely new venue for me. Needless to say, I am delighted with the outcome of this weekend and will now begin to focus on the next race in three week’s time, as we strive to develop our package further to be able to win again”.

The first of the Thai races took place on Saturday afternoon local time, and Felix got off to a flying start to take the lead from Pole-sitter Mathias Beche – who had lapped 0.026 seconds faster than Rosenqvist in second place during the tightest qualifying session of the year this far. Once at the forefront, though, the March3 Racing driver was unstoppable and crossed the finish line 22 seconds in front of Yoshitaka Kuroda of Japan. The second race was more closely contested, but Felix still drove away to another comfortable victory and is edging ever closer to opening up a title-deciding gap in the overall Championship table.

“To win the Championship would be very big for me, and mean a lot for the rest of my career”, Rosenqvist concludes. “To do so was the clear target I set myself at the beginning of this season, and although it looks good at the moment one must never get caught in dangerous thoughts which may compromise the ability to do well in the most important event of all: the very next race. The end of this season is set to be dramatic, and it will be absolutely crucial to remain fast in the final three meetings to be in with a shot for the title at Shanghai in November”.

The next Formula Asia 2.0 race weekend will take place between the 5th-7th of September, as the series returns to Bira Circuit and Thailand for rounds eighth and nine of the season.

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
