Matt Sofi grows a mo for charity

Leading Sydney based Formula 3 driver Matt Sofi will be sporting the beginnings of some new facial hair in support of charity when he races in the final round of the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship at Oran Park this weekend.

Sofi will support ‘Movember’, a charitable event held over the month of November designed to raise awareness and funds in the fight to raise awareness about male health issues.

Funds raised by participants go towards the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia as well as Beyondblue, the national depression initiative. Funds will be used to create awareness, fund research and increase support networks for men who suffer from Prostate Cancer and depression.

Sofi will start the month – at this weekend’s F3 finale’ at Oran Park – clean shaven however by the end of the month his ‘Mo’ will be judged against other participants with the winner taking home the ‘Man of Movember’ title at a gala function to be held at the end of the month.

Sofi, who drives the #2 Total Developments Dallara F304 Mugen Honda, currently sits seventh in the championship however can finish as high as sixth with a strong performance this weekend.

”I’m really looking forward to ‘Movember’ and supporting this effort to raise funds for prostate cancer and male depression awareness,” Mat Sofi said.

”My workplace signed up to support it so I thought I could take it one step further by showing my support on the Total Developments car at Oran Park this weekend. It’s a great initiative and something that all men need to take notice of.

”I’m more than happy to support it via my Formula 3 racing and by growing some facial hair this month – it’s a great excuse not to shave for work every morning, too!” he joked.

Spectators at the Oran Park Shannons Nationals round this weekend can support Sofi’s endeavour by sponsoring him with a donation towards him growing a ‘Mo’ this ‘Movember’.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible. You can sponsor Mat by approaching him at the circuit this weekend in the F3 Paddock, or click here to go to the Movember website.

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
