Koiranen bros. Motorsport returns empty-handed from Sweden

Koiranen bros. Motorsport's sudden lack of results continued, this time in Anderstorp, where the penultimate event of the Formula Renault North European Championship took place.

The Saturday qualifying session was somewhat disappointing for the team, with Atte Mustonen not being able to repeat the great pace he showed in Free Practice, and managing no better than 7th position on the grid.

Tomi Limmonen had lost a lot of track time due to numerous off-track moments during the Free Practice sessions, and suffered the consequences, qualifying 21st.

New recruit Mika Mäki, who joined the team from Formula BMW just for this event, qualified in an encouraging 15th position, and showed that with a little more testing he could have been in the Top 10.

Race 1 got under way under wet conditions, and in the early stages it looked like a good result would be possible. Atte was up to 6th and battling hard in a group of 6 cars, Mika was 11th, and Tomi 13th after passing 8 cars in the first few laps! Unfortunately all drivers were caught out by the tricky track conditions within a few laps. Mustonen and Mäki abandoned the race, whereas Tomi managed to finish in 14th place.

The early retirements meant that Atte and Mika could not post a fast lap during the race, which would determine their starting position for Race 2. Thus, they started 11th and 18th , with Tomi in between in 15th position.

Race 2 saw a repeat of events, this time with Atte and Tomi abandoning after going off the track. Mika did well and crossed the line in 11th place. Unfortunately he was later disqualified for having overtaken another car under yellow flags.

There is now a 3 week break before the next event in Donington Park, for the Formula Renault Eurocup.

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
