Kennard impresses on GP2 debut

British Motorsport star Jonathan Kennard made his GP2 debut at the Paul Ricard test track in the south of France last week for 2007 Champions, iSport International and immediately impressed the team with his speed and approach to the challenge.

Fortune was not smiling on him as he made his way down the pit lane for the first time as the engine suffered a terminal failure. Whilst this was not Jonathan's fault, it meant that he had to sit out the whole of the morning session. With only half a day to get into his stride, Jonathan was at an immediate disadvantage, but acquitted himself very well.

Kennard said, ‘I was gutted about the engine failure, as the jump from Formula Three to GP2 is challenging enough without the loss of the entire morning. I made sure I was out first in the afternoon session to try and complete as many laps as possible.'

‘I immediately felt comfortable with the car, and got to grips with the circuit quickly, but it was a challenge as I had almost no time during the session to consult any data. I am looking forward to getting back into a GP2 cockpit very soon.'

iSport Team Prinicpal Paul Jackson added, ‘With only half a day to get into his stride, Jonathan faced an uphill battle, but acquitted himself very well.

‘This was an impressive debut in difficult circumstances, which indicates that there is true potential here. His calm, professional approach will pay dividends as he moves up the ladder in his career and iSport wish him every success at the Macau Grand Prix next week'.

Jonathan will now head out to the 54th Macau Grand Prix where he will be racing with his current Formula Three team, Raikkonen Robertson Racing.

Jonathan has secured support for Macau from Noble Group, the Hong Kong based commodity and supply chain manager who have had a strong presence at the event for many years, both with the GR Asia WTCC team and supporting Danny Watts in both the Grand Prix and Carrera Cup races.

Tim Huxley of GR Asia, head of Noble Group's sponsorship programme said 'Jonathan was impressive on his Macau debut in 2006 and we believe he will be a strong contender this year. This is a unique, high profile event that has put many drivers on the map and we were keen to get behind a top young British talent in this, the 25th anniversary of the F3 Grand Prix. Any driver with the skill and speed to put an F3 car on pole at Spa like Jonathan did is going to be a force round Macau, a real driver's circuit.'

A delighted Jonathan said, ‘To be racing in Macau and to be supported by the Noble Group is an absolutely fantastic opportunity for me and one I will grab with both hands. I intend to fight hard to achieve a top result, but I know from racing there last year it is a very difficult and unpredictable race.'

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
