Jota Sport enjoy victorious weekend in Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Jota Sport continued their fine debut season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with a race victory, two pole positions and two further podiums as Britain’s premier one make series visited Knockhill in Scotland.

Sam Hancock took both poles in an incredibly tight qualifying session and then went on to score second place in race 1 and a race 2 victory, while Phil Quaife took strong third and fourth place finishes to score a hatful of championship points.

Race 1

Hancock didn’t get the best of getaways allowing fellow front row-starter Tim Bridgman to draw alongside into turn 1 and force his way into the lead. Sam tried to fight back, but Bridgman pulled away in the early stages. A lengthy Safety Car period following a heavy crash by Charles Bateman meant just four laps remained when the race went green and Hancock held on to second despite a late charge from team mate Phil Quaife. Phil had started fourth but passed championship leader Michael Caine on the second lap. In the closing stages he defended hard from Tim Harvey while pushing his team-mate for second. Despite a slight lock-up from Sam in the dying laps, there was no way past for Quaife who settled for third.

Race 2

Hancock scored his third win of the season with a lights-to-flag victory from pole position. Having got away well from the line, he opened up a lead of over two seconds in the first half of the race. Another Safety Car period wiped out his advantage but, although Caine was always less than a second behind, Hancock controlled the race to take the win. Quaife started third and also made a good start to hold Harvey at bay. Unfortunately, he struggled for grip in the first half of the race and dropped to fifth. After the Safety Car period he once again began to post quick lap times and regained fourth place at the final corner when Caine spun following a tap from Harvey.

Team Principal Sam Hignett: “It’s been a brilliant weekend for the team and we’re thrilled to have taken another victory. Everyone involved did a great job and both drivers performed very well.”

Sam Hancock: “It’s a fantastic result for the team. We’ve been quick all weekend and that’s of huge credit to the team. The car has been superb and I’d like to say a big thank you to all the boys.”

Phil Quaife: “This weekend has been a big step forward. We were right there in qualifying and we had the pace to challenge at the front in both races. The guys have worked really hard over the past two weeks and I hope we can continue our improvement at Silverstone in two weeks time.”

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
