Double front row start for Lloyd at Knockhill

West Yorkshire motor racing star Daniel Lloyd produced an outstanding performance at Knockhill Circuit in Scotland this afternoon, Saturday, 16th August, during qualifying for the 17th and 18th rounds of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship.

Achieving a brace of front row starts for Sunday’s two 12-laps races, the 16-year-old’s pace in qualifying completely belied the fact he has never previously visited the Fife track as he lapped just eight 100ths of a second shy of pole-sitter, and championship leader, Dino Zamparelli.

Posting a quickest time of 1m 04.721 seconds (70.71mph) to secure second on the grid for round 17, some 0.246 seconds clear of third placed Dominic Pettit, Daniel’s second best lap of the session of 1m 04.926 seconds was good enough for another front row start for round 18.

Outpacing Thomas Carnaby and Josh Hill, who are currently second and third overall in the driver standings, Daniel has high hopes of clawing back much needed championship points tomorrow and can’t wait for the race action to begin – the second Ginetta Junior encounter, of course, set to be screened live on ITV4.

“I’m really pleased to be on the front row for both races”, said the Scammonden based teenager, “After this morning’s test session I was fairly confident we’d be up there, second on the grid for both races is great and puts us in a good position to fight for two podiums which is the aim.

“Like at several circuits this year, we’ve come into the weekend not expecting much as we’ve never been to Knockhill before. The track is very good, the best way I can describe it is that it’s like being back in karting – it’s up and down, quite physical and quite a challenge for the cars too. The racing tomorrow should be very exciting.”

Daniel’s build-up to this afternoon’s all-important 15-minute qualifying period didn’t run as smoothly as he would have hoped after clutch problems blighted Friday’s one hour practice run. Heading into this morning’s short session, the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship Winner had completed far less mileage than his rivals and yet still managed to post the eighth fastest time before going on to star in qualifying.

Round 17 of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship is timetabled to begin at 11.50 tomorrow, Sunday, 17th August, with round 18 – which will be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4 – following at approximately 15.50.

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
