Daniel Lloyd looking forward to the country's fastest track

British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship Winner Daniel Lloyd is relishing the prospect of racing at the country’s fastest track next weekend, 17th/18th May, when the Ginetta Junior Championship visits Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire for the ninth and 10th rounds of the 2008 season.

The Huddersfield 16-year-old is still celebrating after achieving his first ever podium finish in cars at Donington Park last Sunday, 4th May, but now attention turns to the truly spectacular Thruxton track which offers one of the greatest challenges the teenage racer will encounter all year - especially considering he has never been to the Hampshire venue before.

Climbing onto the rostrum at Donington at the end of only his eighth ever race in cars, Daniel has quickly underlined his natural racing flair and is regarded as an incredibly exciting prospect in the realms of circuit racing.

In actual fact, a double-podium was on the cards last weekend before Daniel was pitched into a spin when lying in third position during the first Donington race – a tremendous fightback into sixth position from outside the top 12, however, displayed his great tenacity and determination.

Competing in front of the biggest crowds in UK motor racing – Ginetta Juniors supporting the country’s most popular series, the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship – the Tockwith Motorsport driver is certainly making the most of his opportunity at the wheel of the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow car and aims to enjoy more success at ultra-fast Thruxton.

“I can’t wait for the Thruxton races, they’re going to be a lot of fun and if we can perform like we did last weekend then I’m confident we’ll be able to fight for a couple of podiums which would be fantastic for our championship position”, said Daniel.

“Qualifying was our main problem during the first few rounds but at Donington we improved that side of things and I was able to get on the podium for the first time as a result. I still want to qualify higher up the grid but it will be very tough at Thruxton as I’ve never been there before. I’ll be giving it my best shot though.”

Currently fourth overall in the driver standings, just 32 points shy of the runner-up position with less than half of the season completed, the Huddersfield Grammar School student is confident he will only get stronger with the added experience of every event.

Free practice ahead of the ninth and 10th rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship will take place at 09.00 on Saturday, 17th May, with qualifying to follow at 11.55. Round nine will then get underway at approximately 16.25.

The 10th round of the season is timetabled to commence at 12.55 on Sunday, 18th May, and is expected to be screened live on Freeview, cable and digital satellite channel ITV4 during the British Touring Car Championship television broadcast which begins at 12.30.
