Daniel Lloyd - Silverstone National preview

Three-time Ginetta Junior Championship race winner Daniel Lloyd hopes for more podium success at Silverstone National Circuit next weekend, 30th/31st August, when the Northamptonshire venue hosts rounds 19 and 20 of the 2008 campaign.

Off the back of an impressive victory last Sunday at Knockhill Circuit in Scotland, his first ever visit to the Fife track, the 16-year-old from Scammonden knows a brace of good results at Silverstone will boost his chances of finishing the season inside the coveted championship top three.

At present, Daniel trails Josh Hill – son of Britain’s last Formula One World Champion, Damon – by 37 points in the driver standings but with 35 points available for a win and bonus points up for grabs for pole position and fastest lap, everything could change a little over a week from now.

So far this year at the wheel of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship Winner car, Daniel has produced some outstanding drives and has proven his natural flair and ability on numerous occasions. Winning so far at Croft in North Yorkshire and Knockhill, Daniel has also visited the podium at Donington Park.

Silverstone’s short 1.64-mile National Circuit will certainly lend itself to top end power and with the Tollbar Racing team of Hill and Thomas Carnaby having enjoyed most success at power circuits this year, Daniel knows he will have to fight incredibly hard.

He said: “I’m not sure what to expect at Silverstone as far as our own competitiveness goes but I do think we should be able to fight for the podium. Tollbar will be very quick as they have been at all of the power circuits this year. The track is very wide for the Junior cars so there should be some good chances for overtaking.

“Obviously, we’re feeling good after the win at Knockhill last weekend and it would be great to carry that momentum forward. I think third in the championship is definitely in reach for us and that’s what we’ll be pushing to achieve. Silverstone National Circuit isn’t the most challenging track we visit but I’m really looking forward to the races.”

One of the most important factors of the Silverstone weekend for Daniel will be the chance of performing well in front of the members of the British Racing Drivers’ Club which is, of course, based at the Northamptonshire venue.

He added: “With the BRDC helping give me the opportunity to race in Ginetta Junior this year by way of its sponsorship of the Stars of Tomorrow car, it would be fantastic to achieve a couple of podium finishes at Silverstone to give the club something back. I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve had this year, hopefully next weekend will go well.”

Following pre-event testing on Friday, 29th August, qualifying will take place at 11.30 on Saturday, 30th August, with round 19 timetabled to get underway at 17.05. Round 20 is then scheduled to take place on Sunday, 31st August, at around 14.45 and is set to be screened on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4.

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
