Dado Pena to join Team BRM in 2008
Team BRM is pleased to announce that Filipino driver Dado Pena will join the team for the 2008 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS Gold Star.
20-year-old Pena will drive a Mercedes-Benz powered Opes Prime / Dallara F307 Chassis in what will be his third season of F3 competition, having raced Formula 3 cars extensively in Asian F3 for the past few seasons.
He finished 4th in the 2004 Asian F3 Promotion Class before finishing 6th outright the following year.
He has also twice finished on the podium in the Philippine National F3 championship, 3rd in 2005 and 2nd in 2004.
In 2004 he drove for Australian-owned team Christian Jones Motorsport, as a team-mate to the son of Formula 3 Australia patron and 1980 F1 World Champ Alan Jones, Christian.
“We had seen Dado drive when we raced in Asian F3 in 2004 and saw that he had plenty of potential, so we’re really happy to have him on board for 2008,” Team BRM Director Mark Rundle said.
”With the previous announcement of Lee Farrell to drive our Opes Prime National Class entry we are putting the pieces in place to give Opes Prime / Team BRM a very strong chance to return to the championship winning ways we showed in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
”We are hopeful that we can announce the drivers for the remaining two F307 / Mercedes chassis sooner rather than later so we can begin testing with the entire line-up.”
Several of Team BRMs new chassis will land in Australia in the weeks following the upcoming Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix, to be held between November 15 – 18.
