Carlin take 1-2-3 in Thruxton qualifying
Carlin Red Bull driver Jaime Alguersuari headed a Carlin 1-2-3 in qualifying at Thruxton today, ahead of round 11 of the 2008 British F3 International Series. The F3 rookie will start just ahead of Red Bull team mate Brendon Hartley and Racing Steps Foundation driver Oliver Turvey in third. Sam Abay completed a strong outing for the team to qualify seventh, while Andy Meyrick completed the double for Carlin, taking pole in the National Class. Kristjan Einar will start sixth in the National Class.
Without the traditional Friday test day, the F3 teams went straight into this morning’s qualifying without completing a practice session. While last month’s official Thruxton test was completed in wet weather, conditions remained dry and bright for the first qualifying session of the day. A high grip circuit and also the quickest track on the F3 calendar, means that tyre wear is a key factor at the Thruxton circuit, leaving the drivers with only a small window in which to post their fastest times.
Oliver Turvey was the first Carlin driver to post a quick lap, taking provisional pole position with 15 minutes to go. Despite making his first visit to Thruxton in the dry, Alguersuari went quicker, taking pole position with Hartley slotting into second place. With all three covered by just 0.037 seconds, the team mates are looking strong for the season qualifying session of the day. Andy Meyrick’s qualifying time was enough to put him tenth overall, meaning five Carlin cars qualified in the top ten.
Current championship leader Alguersuari said, “I’m really pleased to take pole, I’ve never driven here in the dry before so I’m still building up my confidence. This circuit is really hard on tyres, so it’s important to get a good lap in early. We’ll make a few changes to the car before the next session, but it’s a good to know that we’re going in the right direction with the set-up.”
National Class pole sitter Andy Meyrick said, “I’m fairly pleased, although I made a mistake on my fastest lap. I think there are improvements we can make to the car and I know that I can be quicker as well. I’ll be disappointed if we’re not faster in second qualifying, but it’s still a good start to the weekend.”
Carlin director Martin Stone added, “It a great result for the team. To have three drivers in the top three and separated by such a small margin shows that we have a quick car here this weekend. Sam was also very strong as was Andy to take pole for the National Class race. Thankfully Kristjan has recovered from a back injury and continues to make progress in his first full season of racing.”

I've set up a test server for Driver Database now. It's my old computer which had a dying Windows XP install on it that got formatted and installed with Linux. It was about ten years ago I last used Linux so it did take me a while to get Apache, PHP, MySQL and FTP set up properly and importing the d...
