Ben Clucas to test V8 Supercar

Team BRM driver and current Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship leader Ben Clucas will make his Australian V8 Supercar driving debut on Monday, August 21st.

British driver Clucas, 22, will test a 600hp Ford Falcon V8 Supercar for the Factory Ford Performance Racing team at Winton Raceway in Victoria in what will be his first miles behind the wheel of a touring car since landing in Australia at the start of the year.

It is hoped that the test will mark the first step towards Clucas establishing a full-time career in the V8 Supercar Championship, one of the largest Touring Car series in the world.

Clucas has dominated the 2006 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship, winning nine of the ten races held to date and putting Adelaide-Based Team BRM on course for their third Australian Formula 3 Championship in five years – the team having won the 2002 and 2004 championships.

Clucas is the latest in a long line of Team BRM drivers to graduate through the Motorsport ranks via Australian Formula 3, the likes of Karl Reindler, Marcus Marshall and James Manderson all achieving strong results following their respective racing with the team.

“Ben has shown that he is extremely talented,” said Team owner Bronte Rundle.

“His sole intention to come to Australia and Race Australian Formula 3 – thanks to our lower budgets when compared to Europe – was to get into the V8 Supercar Championship. I have no doubt that he will adapt very quickly to driving the V8s and I also have no doubt that he will be racing a V8 Supercar here in 2007.” He said.

Rundle hopes the news of Clucas’ V8 drives will lead to further European drivers looking seriously at racing in Australia with the team with a view to breaking into the V8 Supercar scene.

“Many of Australia’s top drivers, such as Russell Ingall, James Courtney and Marcos Ambrose, have all driven Formula 3 cars, and it’s now clear that the V8 Supercar team owners are looking towards Formula 3 to find drivers.” Rundle said.

“With the category now firmly established in Australia drivers here no longer have to travel overseas to get this important Wings and Slicks experience. It’s also a valuable option for drivers from Europe and the United States to consider because of the significantly lower cost involved in racing here.

“As such we are very keen to hear from drivers who would like to follow Ben’s lead and race in Australian Formula 3.

“Our budgets are significantly lower than in the UK or Europe and firm career pathways are now available into the highly professional and popular world of V8 Supercar racing.” He said.

Team BRM will be commencing testing later this year (During the Australian spring / summer) for any drivers from overseas who wish to take advantage of our warmer weather and lower costs.

Driver Database is huge
December 2 2008
I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
