Asian Festival Of Speed is going bigger this year

Each year, the Asian Festival Of Speed opens its gates to a large number of car club members to display their cars and enjoy the race weekend. This year, Motorsport Asia, the organizers of the Asian Festival Of Speed, are planning to host the Biggest ever Car Club gathering in support of the Biggest ever AFOS event, during the season opener at Sepang International Circuit this 18th May 2008.

In 2007, the collaboration between the various car clubs in Malaysia saw a turnout of 480 cars on display at the Mall Area of the Sepang Circuit, instantly livening up the whole venue with their great presence. A further more spectacular sight was seen as 205 cars arrived at the circuit in a massive convoy that managed to cause a 3.5km traffic jam.

“Every year, we get great support from the motorsport enthusiasts who are car club members. These club guys always arrive at the circuit full of enthusiasm and are charged up to enjoy some great racing. Last year, their massive convoy to the circuit and their presence at the Grandstand livened up the weekend for everyone” said David Sonenscher, CEO of Motorsport Asia.

“This year, we thought why not give back for their fantastic support, so we have made great plans for more exciting activities for them to enjoy alongside the great racing and are inviting more club members to join us at the circuit”.

So, once again the Asian Festival Of Speed is opening up the invitation to all car clubs in Malaysia to become a part of the event and to display their cars at the Grandstand of Sepang Circuit in the hopes of breaking the record turnout from clubs last year.

The 2008 season opener of the Asian Festival Of Speed will feature six outstanding race series, the Formula V6 Asia, Asian Touring Car Series, Formula BMW Pacific, Asian Touring Car Super 1500Max Challenge, Asia Supercar Challenge and Formula Asia 2.0.

At the paddock area, there will be a Safety Driving campaign by Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) which involves the participation of the public, a car show organized by Hot Machines and an auto mart.

Members of the public will also be able to witness the first ever Projectracequeens AFOS Edition girls at the event. The public will also decide who, out of the 30 (thirty) beautiful Race Queen hopefuls, will be crowned the first Projectracequeens AFOS Edition Queen.

For Sonenscher “this will be the biggest turnout of race queens from AFOS and it is something interesting for the public to participate in by getting them to vote for their favourite race queen. These girls will make an appearance at the grandstand area to pose with some of the Club cars on display and they will also be at the pit-walkabout taking photos with the race teams and guests”.

Asia’s premier motorsport event, the Asian Festival Of Speed, celebrated its tenth year in 2007 and has come out even stronger in 2008 hosting three new series for the Sepang round - Asian Touring Car Super 1500Max Challenge, Asia Supercar Challenge and Formula Asia 2.0.

Motorsport Asia the organisers of AFOS will oversee a total of 84 races this season, taking teams to ten outstanding Asian circuits, four of them Formula 1 standard race circuits including the new Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore. The event kick-offs with the season opener at Sepang International Circuit in May before heading to Shanghai, Zhuhai, Sentul, Bira, Chengdu, Marina Bay, Fuji, Okayama and the Guia street circuit in Macau.
