A spin and a massive comeback from Haegermark at Karlskoga
In his second appearance in the Carrera Cup Scandinavia championship at Karlskoga Motorstadion Alexander Haegermark experienced both ups and downs. A spin in the Saturday race after a passing attempt for ninth place costed a lot of places but his comeback was spectacular in the second race with a drive through the field from 20th to 8th.
- The free practice felt good and I was happy with my position since most of the guys in front had new tyres fitted, Alexander explains
The qualifying was divided into groups order from championship points. Something that isn't an advantage for drivers not doing the full season. Alexander ended up tenth on the grid in the 30 car field for race one, 0.5 seconds from pole positions - the closest qualifying ever in Carrera Cup Scandinavia
- I can understand that the top drivers in the championship wants to drive in a separate group, but it would be fair if all drivers qualified at the same time, Alexander says. Unfortunately I didn't get a traffic free lap until the end of the session when both groups were together so it wasn't optimal for my tyres which had run too many laps. We also had to sacrifice our two extra tyres to do a new attack at the end
The first race was a tight battle between Jonas Gelzinis, Alexander and Niklas Lovén for ninth. It ended with a over optimistic passing attempt at the end of the straight. Alexander explains:
- I got a half decent start. I managed to keep my place after the Trösen despite a small nudge by Gelzinis. I felt pretty secure the first couple of laps. Then the car started to get more understeer and I had no good speed coming out to the straight. I couldn't keep them behind me any longer and decided to step back and try to conserve my tyres. It paid off by the end when I could do a push. I was nearly there during the pass but I went into the corner a bit too fast and spun.
- If I was driving for the championship I would have played it safe to score points.
For the second race on Sunday rain had been forecast, but it was once again a dry race with lots of incidents.
Alexander made a good start and move up to 15th in the first lap. Two cars tangled up and the safety car was called out for three laps. At the green light Alexander passed car after car and was tenth with a few laps to go. Then Öhlin and Rantzow ran into each other which made Öhlin's car releasing water onto the track. It got very slippery and hard to drive. Alexander ended the race in eight after a good comeback from 20th.
- I am very satisfied with today's competition. The team did a good job with the car after we've decided on some changes with it. Perhaps I didn't have the fastest car in the field but I had a very steady pace during the whole race, Alexander says.
After the race the team was happy with the fact that Alexander had the second fastest sector time in the second part of the track.
Once again a big thanks to Fragus Försäkringar who joined as main sponsor for the race and for the support from Danielsson Motorsport, Alexander concludes

I started this site in 2004 with about 100 pages related to the Formula 1 drivers of the 2004 season. Now, more than four years later it has grown a bit. How big is it, you ask? Total number of pages: 210744 (at Dec 01) Size of text in database: 47.5 MB While 47.5 MB might not sound like much...
