Died after an accident in practice for the International 500 Mile Sweepstakes at Indianapolis. He was offering set up tips for his friend Paul Russo’s Watson Offenhauser car when he hit the outside wall on the main straight and the car rolled along the barrier until it came to rest outside the track. The USAC concluded that an anchor bolt had fell off, making the front axle twist when the driver braked.
