Gabby Chaves returns to the USA after a five day workshop at the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy, which focused on one of the most important aspects of the programme: road safety. To help with this, the Academy has been making use of the resources and coaching available at Test & Training International’s Road Safety Training Centre in Teesdorf, Austria.
Here the drivers have been educated in all areas of safety from learning the right mental approach to understanding the engineering advances such as anti-lock braking and stability control.

Gabby Chaves (5th in the American Driver Ranking) did something no one else has ever done in Formula BMW Americas history. In fact, one would be hard pressed to find anyone who has pulled off this feat in any racing series anywhere in the world. Gabby Chaves finished on the podium in every one of the 14 races in the 2009 season. A fitting way to bring the series, which has been dropped by BMW, to closure.
