Cyrus Engineer's biography

2012

2012Cyrus Engineer Wins UAE junior max Finale to become Vice Champion

13-year-old ends championship the way he started it ? with victory at Al Ain Raceway

Talented 13 year old teenage kart racer Cyrus Engineer won the final round of the 2011/2012 UAE Rotax Junior Max Championship to become Vice-Champion.

Racing impressively to come out on top of the 18-lap Final with victory after a tight, four-way battle, the Dubai-based youngster also managed to post the fastest lap with a superb performance.

With just a couple of years? racing experience under his belt, this has undoubtedly been Cyrus? strongest campaign yet and he is justly delighted to have ended the 12-round series as Vice-Champion.

Cyrus Dominates Rounds 5 of AARKC and 3 of DAMC

13 year old Cyrus Engineer won round five of the AARKC Rotax Junior max UAE championship and round three of the DAMC karting championships which took place at Dubai?s premier karting venue, the Dubai Kartdrome on Friday 20th January 2012 when the season resumed for the new year.

The Dubai based Indian driver comfortably won the race by a margin of 6 seconds.

2011

2011Cyrus Wins Round 1 of Rotax UAE championship

Cyrus Engineer took his maiden victory and now heads the points standings after a positive season opener at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates (30 September).

The venue for the 2011 Rotax Grand Finals hosted the UAE Nationals' curtain raiser with more than 70 contestants. Cyrus had to start the pre final from P4, As the race began to find its rhythm, the youngster had become part of a 4-kart breakaway group disputing the lead till he eventually overtook all to take the lead to win the first race of the new season.

UAE Rotax Max Challenge Round 2

Cyrus wins heat, takes podium after pre-final accident DNS

On Friday (14 October 2011, Dubai Kartdrome hosted the second round of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge with the biggest turn out of drivers in recent years which invariably led to top notch action with intrigue and battles throughout the day. The races also counted towards the DAMC Karting Championship.

After Qualifying in P2, 13 year old Indian Junior Max driver Cyrus Engineer had a great start as he cleanly breezed past the pole sitter before turn one to take a clearly established lead of the race to win it soon after. Starting from pole in the Pre final, He was pushed wide at turn one onto the sand after which three drivers in front of him collided into each other; nowhere to go, a driver from behind launched him into the air and onto his side.

Shaken but not stirred, the young driver was soon given the all clear by the paramedics and made his way back to the pits only to find that the Pre finals were restarted without him.

Alls well that ends well for Cyrus, as he made it to the podium from the back of the field.

Tracktalk officials - "Engineer put his dramatic accident behind him to take 3rd in the final."

PODIUM FOR CYRUS AT ROUND 3

Cyrus lead the final for 8 laps till tire pressures slowed him down
13 year old Cyrus engineer took the lead in the finals starting from P4 and held it for 8 laps till setup issues slowed him by a second as he lost two positions crossing the line in a disappointing third. After the last rounds accident and the setup issues at round three Cyrus has lost his lead in the championship and is trailing second by 32 points.

2010

2010Cyrus spends 2010 shuttling between Dubai and the UK -

After experiencing his first taste of British Cadet karting at Formula Kart Stars opening round at Rowrah, Cyrus had his first race at Larkhall where he missed qualifying for the A final during his first run at the circuit.

Cyrus then headed to PFI in June 2010 to race in the Trent Valley Kart Club?s monthly race meeting finishing in ninth place and the pre-final 24th in the fiercely competitive British Open Championship. With a plane to catch so he could reach Dubai in time for school at 8.00 A.M. and the schedule running a little late, Cyrus had to abandon his hopes of participating in the O Plate finale.

Super 1 round 4 Rowrah June 20 - Cyrus finished 22nd in the second heat. Due to his DNF in the first heat, Cyrus's grid position for the pre-final was far behind in 26th place and eventually crossed the line in 22nd place, and the final in 18th from a full grid.

Cyrus finishes 13th at Wigan Gold Cup from full grid of 32 drivers - Having never raced there before, Cyrus quickly had to learn the lines around the fast, maximum-attack circuit He qualified 14th and in his first heat, finished 19th place and 11th in the second heat. Cyrus took the chequered flag in 13th position, his best finish yet.

The annual Kart Masters event attracts many of Britain?s best drivers and those from further afield, including Dubai-based Cyrus. Cyrus displayed his best pace to date in the preliminary practice sessions at the fantastic PFi circuit located near Grantham in Lincolnshire. However, during Thursday's timed qualifying his motor threw it's chain, leaving Cyrus to sit on the sidelines and watch himself slide down the standings, from 14th to an eventual 26th. The young racer had to contend with starting from the 13th row of the grid for the first heat, in which he made up ground to finish 20th. In the following race, Cyrus took the chequered flag in 16th place to qualify on the 10th row of the grid for the pre-final. He drove a solid race to hold his starting grid position (20th) to the finish, final lap in 20th place again.

The en vogue Glan Y Gors circuit in North Wales hosted the fifth round of the British Super 1 MSA championship, where Cyrus finished the pre-final in 13th and main final 16th places respectively from a full grid and then Back to school in Dubai for Cyrus.

The first DAMC race of the season at Dubai Autodrome proved to be more than just a hot day for Cyrus? After a fantastic summer of racing in the UK ? in which Cyrus had competed across the length and breadth of Britain ? Race day (17 September) saw the ambient temperature climb to 43 degrees Celsius,
Cyrus qualified in p2 and rossed the line in 2nd position, but was later awarded the win after the race winner was given a time-penalty for a start issue, he finished the finals in 2nd place.

Flying back to the UK from Dubai for the The ninth round of the Formula Kart Stars, held at the fantastic Three Sisters circuit in the North West of England, saw Cyrus largely having to play catch-up with his Wigan peers.

After showing up 6th fastest in timed practice (his best yet) and qualifying 14th overall, Cyrus then drove well to finish both his heats (11th and 14th) without incident, and progressed directly to the A final for the first time this season.

Cyrus's graduation from Cadets to the faster Junior Max category proved to be little short of revelatory. Having spent much of last summer honing his skills against Britain's best Cadet drivers, the experience clearly paid off and despite a long lay-off during the winter, he featured strongly throughout. In the following heat, Cyrus got his head down, eased away and eventually won with three seconds in hand over his rivals.

On pole position for the first of the day?s two finals, Cyrus made good his advantage and led for the first five laps. A mistake in the third corner saw him pushed to 2nd and although he fought back and harried the new leader?s rear bumper all the way to the finish, he ultimately had to settle for 2nd

Early days

013 year old Indian National Cyrus Engineer made an instant impact on his kart racing debut in 2009, at age ten when he claimed a podium at the Belgium Rotax Championship driving for the GKS Lemmens team in the Micro-Max category at the world-famous Genk circuit in Belgium.

To develop his burgeoning talent throughout the 2010 season, Cyrus joined forces with 2005 CIK/FIA World Karting Champion Oli Oakes and spent much of the year competing in one of the toughest karting arenas in the world, Great Britain. During this time, he raced Comer Cadets in the Lewis Hamilton and Bernie Ecclestone-backed Formula Kart Stars series, and also Super One, the Championship that launched the careers of F1 stars Jenson Button and Paul Di Resta. He also finished 13th from 34 at the Wigan Gold cup, his first experience at the circuit.

Fantastic progress was made, with Cyrus frequently demonstrating that he could hold his own against some of the brightest young talent in Europe despite being 4 kg over the weight limit for the Cadet class.

At the end of 2010 he graduated to the faster Junior Max category in his hometown Dubai - using 125cc water-cooled Rotax engines, and, just as he had started his karting career, he stood on the podium at the first attempt. The next race saw Cyrus collecting silverware yet again, driving with the much older experienced juniors.

At the curtain raiser for the 2011/2012 Rotax UAE National Championship held at Al Ain International Raceway, venue for the 2011 Rotax Grand World finals, young Cyrus took his maiden victory in the Junior Max class defeating the exisitng champion and taking an early lead into the UAE junior max championship.

Cyrus is contesting the 12 round AARKC and the six round DAMC championship series in the UAE for 2011-2012.
