Carlin’s Formula Renault 3.5 team ended the 2008 World Series on a high this weekend, as Red Bull drivers Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin grasped three podiums between them in Barcelona. Robert Wickens finished third in this afternoon’s World Series by Renault race at the Circuito do Estoril, having started the race from fifth on the grid. The Red Bull racer was third for the first half of the race, but lost out to Alvaro Barba to cross the line in fourth place. However, second placed driver Marcos Martinez was later handed a 25 second penalty, elevating Wickens to the final podium position. Carlin World Series drivers Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin made a strong start to the Portuguese round of the 2008 Formula Renault 3.5 Series today, with Wickens setting the fastest time in Friday’s collective testing. Team mate Mikhail Aleshin was the quickest Carlin runner in the morning session, setting the third fastest time. Carlin Motorsport endured a difficult second race at Le Mans this weekend, despite a strong fourth place for Red Bull driver Mikhail Aleshin. Robert Wickens was forced to start the race from the pit lane following a clutch problem, dispelling any changes of a points paying finish. Despite racing at the back of the field, the 19 year-old Canadian demonstrated his pace to set a new circuit lap record.
