Carlin World Series drivers Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin made a strong start to the Portuguese round of the 2008 Formula Renault 3.5 Series today, with Wickens setting the fastest time in Friday’s collective testing. Carlin Motorsport endured a difficult second race at Le Mans this weekend, despite a strong fourth place for Red Bull driver Mikhail Aleshin. Robert Wickens was forced to start the race from the pit lane following a clutch problem, dispelling any changes of a points paying finish. Despite racing at the back of the field, the 19 year-old Canadian demonstrated his pace to set a new circuit lap record. At a cloudy and wet Le Mans circuit in northern France, Red Bull drivers Mikhail Aleshin and Robert Wickens prepared for Saturday’s qualifying session.
