Driver of the Year 2007

With a large margin Finnish Formula 1 driver Kimi Räikkönen was voted Driver of the Year 2007 in the inaugural Driver Database Driver of the Year awards. With 54% of the votes Kimi against second placed rival Lewis Hamilton's 13.8% this title was far more easily won than the F1 championship. NASCAR veteran Jeff Gordon placed third in the votes with support from 13.8% of the racing fans.

In the Young Driver of the Year category for drivers 21 years old or younger German F1 rookie Sebastian Vettel was the clear winner with 40.6% of the votes. Formula 3 Euro Series champion and 2008 Renault F1 test driver Romain Grosjean finished second with 15.7% and Sweden's Marcus Ericsson who won the UK Formula BMW title ended up in third with 10.2% of the votes.

The Open Wheel Driver of the Year was not surprisingly Kimi Räikkönen again who now managed to get 43.5% of the votes. Second was again Lewis Hamilton with 12.2% and third was Swiss/French Romain Grosjean with 10.9%.

Winning the Race of Champions against Michael Schumacher in the final was a nice way to end 2007 for DTM champion Mattias Ekström. 2008 didn't start off too badly for Ekström either as he is now crowned as 2007's Stock car / Sportscar / Touring car Driver of the Year (the longest title for sure). Ekström's 29% of the votes was enough to win ahead of Andy Priaulx (19.6%) and Toni Vilander (19.1%).

The closest category was the Karting Driver of the Year. Marco Ardigo edged out Jack Harvey by 25% to 19% to win and the pair was followed by Michael K. Kristensen who got 10.8% of the votes.

Lewis Hamilton's remarkable rookie season didn't pass 38.3% of the voters by in the Surprise Driver of the Year category. Lewis won the award ahead of fellow F1 rookies Sebastian Vettel (20%) and Adrian Sutil (12%).

The Driver Database 2007 Driver of the Year awards were run in two parts. First the visitors of Driverdb.com were able to nominate drivers for all six categories. The ten drivers with the most nominations in each category were then selected as the nominated drivers. During one month the visitors were able to vote for the drivers in all six categories.
