New stuff!

Written by . Friday, December 11 2009.

The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

Yup, you heard it here first. I’m not dead. :D

I have been pretty busy lately and with spare time being pretty non existent this past half year this has meant I’ve been falling behind on stuff I really expected to and wanted to be able to keep up with. As Driver Database is very far from being my full time job (you get pay cheques from jobs, right?) it has had to suffer a little.

I’ve been able to keep up with most of the results, a...

Busy as Ever!

Written by Scott Malvern. Wednesday, December 9 2009.

Well the race season may be over but the so called Â"silly seasonÂ" is now well under way and I have to say I have been incredibly busy these past few weeks! My schedule recently has included Dunlop tyre testing in Formula Ford Duratec for Raysport at Snetterton and shake down testing again in Formula Ford Duratec for the Juno Team at Rockingham. Component testing for Project One karts at Whilton Mill and at PF International kart circuits and taking part in the annual Johnny Herbert Karting cha...

UK National Champion!

Written by Scott Malvern. Friday, November 13 2009.

I spent over six hours yesterday afternoon & evening (12th Nov) in the HQ of Motorsport Ireland, in Dublin, at a hearing that would ultimately decide whether Rory Butcher or I would be the 2009 Webcon UK Formula Ford National Champion.

I have to be perfectly honest in that it is not an experience that I would be keen to repeat but unfortunately in this case it was totally necessary. It was brought about by an on track incident early on in the final championship round at Mondello Park in Septe...

2009 Vortex Super Rok Grand Final - Never give up!

Written by Fabienne Lanz. Wednesday, November 11 2009.

All the top guns, from allover the world, were here at South Garda Karting Track in Lonato, Italy to compete for the Vortex Super Rok title. There were 68 competitors in the Super Rok category of which 6 of us were from South Africa.

We were quickest on Friday morning and were in the top 5 for the rest of the weekend. Qualifying is very important as we get split up into groups and go through elimination rounds. So a quick time is vital to be able to start in the front of the grid and to stay...

2009 Bridgestone Cup European Final

Written by Fabienne Lanz. Thursday, November 5 2009.

The Bridgestone Cup European Final is a well known international event, where most of the top competitors, such as Alessandro Vantini, Paolo Baselli and Massimo Aceto, who compete here also compete in the Vortex Super Grand Final (19th 0 25 October).

We pitted in the PCR factory tent for this race together with other PCR drivers. The PCR owners came to the race to watch us compete. The experience was incredible! I gained so much once again. I canÂ’t get enough of these races in Europe. I abso...

Update from Scott Malvern

Written by Scott Malvern. Thursday, November 5 2009.

Well racing may be over for this year but there is still a lot going on!

Firstly I was very sorry to have to miss what should have been the final meeting of the year for me, the Sir Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone. Unfortunately in the end we were just overcome by circumstances and had to admit defeat. This was a shame, particularly as the meeting was predominantly wet and IÂ’d won comprehensively on the same circuit, in the wet, back in June. But every cloud as they say has a silver linin...

Formula Ford Festival

Written by Kieran Vernon. Monday, November 2 2009.

I headed into the Formula Ford festival with a lot of hope after arranging a drive with the works Van Diemen outfit Fluid Motorsport.

This is the best opportunity I have had all year to show what i can do. It has been tough to have the status of a Rising Star and not being able to deliver the results. However we have shown this year in a car not so competitive we can still move forward and up the grid. Working with Fluid will be the best opportunity to end the season on a high and to learn a ...

Kyalami Finale

Written by Clare Vale. Saturday, October 31 2009.

Our final 2009 Championship race was held at Kyalami on October 17th, and as is the norm for this time of year, we watched the black clouds rolling in on Saturday morning. Here in South Africa, our summer rain is nothing like the European drizzle - we have Thunderstorms! Kyalami is renowned for the rivers that start to run across the circuit when it rains, so we knew we were in for an eventful race if the heavens opened.

We arrived at Kyalami lying 10th in the Championship, and were optimisti...

Some fun testing

Written by Charlotte Haegermark. Thursday, October 29 2009.

It has been a while since my last update so now it’s time for a new one.

I have been quite busy with having two tests done. The first on in a Formula Renault 2.0 and the second in a Volvo C30 Racing. It was the first time for me racing cars on track with the Volvo, but really a great day! We were three drivers sharing one car during the
5 h race.

The sponsor work for next year is on and soon I’m going on the first couple of meetings.

Until then, I have a new exciting project to work w...

Jacob was at the track when a fellow karter was injured and asked Jacob to pilot his #21 Buller Kart.Jacob had to tag the feild in the 21st position, with the drop of the green flag , Jacob took the high line and passed about 7 karts. he would then work his way up to finish in second position....

Formula Ford Festival 2009

Written by Josh Benson. Saturday, October 24 2009.

I had been looking forward to the Formula Ford Festival for quite some time and guess what? – I got the flu and it knocked me out. I got up for the first test day on the Wednesday and I can’t remember the last time I felt so ill. A hot cup of tea and a dose of Vitamin C and we were on our way. We arrived at the circuit nice and early and the weather was good. It had been two weeks since I had been in my car. Far too long. Josh Hill, Cole and Palmer were all out and looking quick. I went ...

Written by Jacob Hawkins. Monday, October 19 2009.

The Arizona Modified Midget season is coming to a close, but the points battle has been heating up. Jacob started 8th in his heat race to finsh 4th. Jacob would start in the 11th position to come through the feild to a 6th place finish, it be a good points run to extend his Championship lead...

Festival Fever!

Written by Scott Malvern. Monday, October 19 2009.

The Formula Ford Festival is without doubt one of the legendary Motor Racing Events. It was established in 1972 and takes place every October at Brands Hatch. Many legendary names have competed at the Festival including Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill and of course the new Formula One World Champion Jenson Button won the Festival in 1998. What a coincidence that we should be on track at the 2009 Festival at the same time that Jenson was wrapping up the World title in Brazil.

Great end to the season

Written by Josh Webster. Tuesday, October 13 2009.

The last six weeks have been really busy and eventful. When I wrote my first blog I was just about to go to Salbris, France for the last round of the Rotax Max Euro Series. I felt under a lot of pressure as I had led the championship from the first round, and didn’t want to mess up at the last race!

With a 6 point lead I just needed a solid performance keeping my rival for the title, Kay Van Kemenade (Netherlands) in check. Of course it wasn’t that easy! I made life really difficult by quali...

2nd overall, Class B Champion

Written by Abbie Eaton. Monday, October 12 2009.

The last round of the Dunlop Sportmaxx championship was going to be a non-starter due to the ever present problem of lack of funding, which was really frustrating because I was still in contention to win the overall championship.

However, two people seem to keep rescuing my racing season, so for the third time this year Mike and Andy at WHF LTD (Race transporters) were my knights in shining armour!!

The last time I was at Snett was a year ago at the last round of Saxmax. So not being able ...

Problems with the driver blogs on the front page

Some blog posts are disappearing, returning, disappearing and then returning again. I’m using Yahoo Pipes to merge all the different driver blog feeds into one to publish them on the front page at [...]
